マタイによる福音書第６章（欽定訳）

６章

1.　人々の前で、あなたがたのもろもろの施しをしないように注意していなさい。彼らに見られないようにするために。そうでないと、もろもろの天におられるあなたがたの父からは、報酬を受け取れない。

2.　[i]あなたが施しをする時は、偽善者たちがスナゴーグや通りで人々から栄誉を受けるためにするように、あなたの前でラッパを鳴らさないようにしなさい。アーメン。私は[ii]あなたがたに言う。彼らはその報酬を受けてしまっている。

3.　あなたは慈善の施しをする時には、あなたの右手がしている事をあなたの左手には知られないようにしていなさい。

4.　そうすれば[iii]あなたの施しが秘密のものとなり、秘密の（所で）見ておられるあなたの父ご自身が、[1]はっきりとした形にして[2]あなたに報いて下さる。

5.　又、[3]あなたがたが祈る時、偽善者たちのようであってはいけない。なぜなら、彼らは人々に見られるために、これらのスナゴーグや通りの角に立って祈る事を愛している。アーメン。私は言う。彼らはその報酬を[4]完全に受けてしまっている。

6.　しかし、[iv]あなたが祈る時は、あなたの秘密の部屋の中に入ってその戸を閉め、密かな所におられるあなたの父に祈りなさい。そうすれば、密かな所で見ておられるあなたの父は、[5]明らかな形であなたに報いて下さる。

7.　また、[6]あなたがたが祈る時には、諸国民たちのように空しい繰り返しを用いてはいけない。彼らは自分たちの口数の多さによって彼らの祈りが聞かれると考えている。

8.　しかし、彼らのようであってはいけない。あなたがたの父は、あなたがたが彼に求める前にあなたがたの必要とする事共を知っておられるからだ。

9.　 そこで、あなたがたはこのように祈りなさい。『もろもろの天におられます私たちのおとうさま、御名があがめられますように。

10.　あなたの王国を来たらせて下さい。あなたのみこころが天で行われているように、地上でも行わせて下さい。

11.　私たちに、今日必要な食物をお与え下さい。

12.　私たちが私たちの負債者を赦しておりますように、私たちの負債をお赦し下さい。

13.　又、私たちを試みの中に入れず、悪から開放して下さい。あなたの王国と、力と、栄光とは永遠に至るからです。アーメン。』

14.　もし、あなたが彼らをもろもろの過失から赦しているならば、もろもろの天におられるあなたがたの父も又、あなたがたをお赦しになる。

15.　しかし、もし、彼らをもろもろの過失から赦してあげていないなら、あなたがたの父も同様に、あなたがたのもろもろの過失をお赦しにならない。

16.　[7]あなたがたが断食をするときは、偽善者たちのようであってはいけない。彼らは自分が断食をしているのを人々に表すために、彼らの顔を暗く装っている。アーメン。私はあなたがたに言う。彼らはその報酬を完全に受けてしまっている。

17.　だから、[v]あなたが断食をする時にはあなたの頭に油を塗り、あなたの顔を洗いなさい。

18.　そうすれば人間にではなく、密かな所にいる[vi]あなたの父にあなたの断食が明らかになり、そして、密かな所で見ているあなたの父が、明らかな形にしてあなたに報いて下さる。

19.　[vii]あなたがたの宝をこの地上に蓄えていないようにしなさい。そこでは虫と錆とが台無しにし、盗人が掘り出して盗み出している。

20.　そこで、あなたがたの宝を天に蓄えていなさい。そこでは虫も錆も台無しにすることがなく、又、盗人が掘り出す事も盗む事もない。

21.　[viii]あなたの宝のある所には、あなたの心もまたあるのだから。

22.　この体の光は目なのだ。だから、[ix]あなたの目が健全[8]であれば、あなたの全身も光で満たされる。

23.　しかし、もし、あなたの目が悪ければあなたの体全部が暗くなる。もし、あなたの内にあるその明かりが暗ければ、それはどんなにひどい暗闇であることか！

24.　だれも二人の主に仕えることはできない。なぜなら一方を憎み、そして、他方を愛する。又、一方を支持するが他方を軽蔑してしまう。[9]あなたがたは天の神にも仕え、マンモン（富と強欲の神）にも仕えることはできない。

25.　それ故、私はあなたがたに言う。何をあなたがたは食べ、何を飲むのかと、あなたがたの魂のために心配し、また、何を着ようかと、あなたがたの体のために心配しないようにしなさい。その命は食べ物に勝り、又、その体は着物に勝っていないか？

26.　空の鳥たちを見なさい。彼らは蒔かず、刈り取らず、集めて倉に入れる事もしていない。しかし、天にいますあなたがたの父は彼らを養っておられる。あなたがたは彼らよりはるかに価値があるのではないか？

27.　又、あなたがたの内のだれが心配する事によって、彼の身長を一キュービット加える事ができるのか？

28.　また、何故着るものについて心配しているのか？野のユリたちがどのようにして育つのかをよく考えなさい。彼らは働かず、紡いでもいない。

29.　しかし、[x]あなたがたに言う。ソロモーンも、彼の栄耀栄華の中でさえもこれらの中の一つほどにも装ってはいなかった。

30.　今日は野にあるが、明日には炉に投げ入れられる野の草でさえも天の神はこのように装って下さるのなら、尚更のことあなたがたにして下さらない事があるだろうか？ああ、信仰の小さな者たちよ。

31.　だから心配して、『何をわたしたちは食べるのか、何をわたしたちは飲むのか、又、何を着るのか』と言っていてはいけない。

32.　これらの物は、すべて諸国民たちが慕い求めているものではないか。天におられるあなたがたの父は、あなたがたにはこれらの物すべてが必要である事を知っておられるのだ。

33.　だから、まず天の神の王国と彼の義とを求めていなさい。そうすれば、これらの物はみなあなたがたに加えられる。

34.　だから、明日について心配しないようにしなさい。これらの事は明日自身が心配する。その日のやっかい事[10]は、それだけで十分なのだ。

Do Good to Please God

6 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 

² Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

 ³ But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 

⁴ that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

The Model Prayer

⁵ “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

 ⁶ But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

 ⁷ And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

⁸ “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

 ⁹ In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
¹⁰ Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
¹¹ Give us this day our daily bread.
¹² And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
¹³ And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

¹⁴ “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

¹⁶ “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

 ¹⁷ But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 

¹⁸ so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

¹⁹ “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 

²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

 ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The Lamp of the Body

²² “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.

²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

You Cannot Serve God and Riches

²⁴ “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Do Not Worry

²⁵ “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

²⁶ Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 

²⁷ Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

²⁸ “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 

²⁹ and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 

³⁰ Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

³¹ “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

 ³² For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

 ³³ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 

³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
